For children and their parents

Kids QR is a QR reader and creator for children ages 6-12 to use with a parent or guardian. A parent sets the initial PIN and checks webpage text before saving it. Children read only the saved text. The app has no account registration, ads, payments, or usage analytics SDK.

Camera and photos

Camera access is requested when scanning a QR. Frames are used on the device to recognize QR codes. They are not saved or sent to a server. The camera stops when you leave the scanner or put the app in the background.

Reading from a photo temporarily opens only the image selected through the Android file picker. The app does not request access to the entire photo library and does not keep the photo after recognition.

Information stored on the device

The parent PIN is stored as a PBKDF2 verification value with a random salt, not as the original PIN. Failed attempts and the lockout deadline are also stored locally. Approved exact HTTPS addresses, titles, text, and save dates are kept in app storage and excluded from Android cloud backup and device transfer.

Ordinary scan results and text being entered are not stored as a history. Exporting a QR picture creates a PNG in your chosen location. Anyone who sees the picture can read its words, so do not include personal information.

The app supports English, Korean, and Japanese. It follows the device language by default and stores a parent's selected app language on the device. Saved reading remains in its original language and is not automatically translated.

When a parent loads a webpage

After entering a PIN, a parent can tap Load text to send an HTTPS request to the entered address. That website and network providers may process the requested address, IP address, and connection information. Check the website's privacy policy for its retention periods and practices. Do not enter links containing personal information or login tokens.

The app does not use login cookies or web storage, and does not run ads, scripts, pictures, videos, or external links. Automatic redirects are blocked. Children see only text a parent checked and saved, so reading saved material does not send a web request. This feature does not send scan contents or the PIN to the developer's server.

Support website and inquiries

This website uses Firebase Hosting. Google processes web requests when you visit, subject to the Google Privacy Policy. The app does not include Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or Auth SDKs.

A parent or guardian should send support requests through Mr. Latte's shared contact page. Contact information and the message provided are used to respond and resolve the issue. Requests to access or delete information related to an inquiry can be sent through the same page. Do not send unnecessary personal information, including a child's name or photograph.

Retention and deletion

Approved reading remains on the device until a parent deletes it. Parent settings let you remove individual items or all saved reading. Clearing app data in Android settings or uninstalling the app deletes app storage. If you forget the PIN, clear app data and have a parent set up again. Exported QR pictures must be deleted separately from their save location.

Scope of protection

The app does not automatically classify harmful webpages or control internet access across the device. Parents review and approve text themselves. The protection does not apply to other apps or browsers. Check the words in ordinary QR codes with a parent too.
